At work as Underwater Photographer
My journey has taken me from environmental education to communications & media and most recently marine tourism. The common factor: a commitment to marine conservation through education, communication and exposure.
In 2010 I Co-founded an Environmental Education non-profit organization in Peru: Programa Conciencia focused on working with artesanal fishing communities in northern Peru, with the aim of achieving happier, healthier communities; empowered and engaged to steward their own resources. Through Human-Centered Design we strived to create environmental education experiences and curricula specific to each location and the local conservation issues of that place. Our core belief: the power of play, curiosity, creativity and the senses to guide children to understand and experience nature on their own terms.
With a Bachelors Degree in Broadcast and Digital Media I learned to harness the power of a good communication strategy to gain exposure, secure funding and tell stories that are crucial to conservation. I’m a true believer that reality so many times surpasses fiction and showcasing the characters, stories and scenery of the real world is my passion. Digital media, marketing and content creation that is exciting and captivating is an invaluable tool for any successful endeavour and my intent is to apply this forces for the good.
Coming to Australia I became a PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor and Coxswain, looking to immerse myself in the wonders of the natural underwater world and train and form in one the leading countries for this industry in terms of safety, product and wildlife. I have spent the last three years developing my skills as a Marine Tourism all-rounder and am happy to say that I am currently Dive Instructor, Dive Operations Supervisor and Onboard Photographer in one the leading marine tourism operators in FNQ: Calypso Reef Cruises.
